Witch hazel is blooming dotting the forest with feathers of yellow, reminiscent of Spring's forsythia. Apparently the seeds can shoot out of the capsule and fly 10 m earning the alternative name "Snapping Hazel". I've never seen or heard that, but I'll be more aware next August or so. Wikipedia
