A big push to get more of the windows installed today before more winter weather hits resulted in the installation of the front windows, all of the master bedroom windows and the larger windows that will light the stairs; everything except the kitchen sink window and the 2 transom-like windows over the living room doors are in. While most of the lower windows are standard double-hung, the front bump-out, a wall of glass, has large trapezoids above. Those windows are a heavy so lots of labor and teamwork was involved in getting the big windows up and in place, shimmed and fastened correctly.
When Paul went out to record today's interior progress, the 4 windows in the master bedroom looked out on a pink and purple sunset over the meadow, a view we are sure to enjoy later. It is fun taking the interior shots now because when the walls go up for the master suite and the upstairs bedroom, we won't be able to see completely across the interior of the first floor. We are very glad we put the dormers in. The upstairs rooms will be comfortably lit and feel large.
Weather today was in the mid-30s; we even had some nice sunshine. Still, it was cold and windy on the work site. The propane heater the crew uses to warm up the garage when they take their lunch break unexpectedly ran out of gas today. It just so happened that we had a spare, unused tank for our BBQ grill, so the heater was functional again. It would have been a shame to make the crew eat their lunch in a cold garage--their work conditions are hard enough as it is. Electricity from the garage to Phase II was installed by temporary wire today. Since the propane heater puts out CO + H
2O it's better to heat with electricity once the doors and rest of the windows are installed.
The Crew has piled scrap wood including ends of timbers and pieces of strapping for us to burn as needed. One more way to keep the dumpster as empty as possible.
