Red and blue berries and a spicy surprise within

The viburnum berries are turning colors.  The bushes are packed with berries. 

The first bush on our entrance walkway has a huge (and growing) baldface hornet's paper nest.  Jonathan found out the hard way when a toy airplane he was tossing got stuck, and he got stung.

Wikipedia says, "The bald-faced hornet is considered useful by some people in that it preys on pest species of flies, caterpillars, and spiders. It is considered a pest itself, building hives of stinging insects near human habitation. It is a minor pollinator of some flowers."

Bluebird

Paul rescued a bluebird from our wood stove.  It was drier in there than outside.
We have the Thymus praecox 'Albiflorus' White Creeping Thyme from Stepables.com planted between the flagstones.  The chickens approve.
Cranberry and arrowwood viburnum are doing well under the bedroom west window.  Landscaping is a slow business.
