Mom 1; Nature 0

Paul's adventure with Buddy and the seed from Virginia stick seed was not the only one of its kind last week.  Even Gambol got some action.  We also have Pointed Leaved Tick Trefoil - Desmodium glutinosum which has green triangular velcro seeds and grows in a place that the dogs have to visit every run.  We talked about getting him shaved, but we remember the sheltie on Nancy Drive who hid for 2 weeks after his seasonal shave.  We also aren't convinced that these seeds wouldn't stick to his ping-cut, and he does need some protection from grass and winter winds.
So, I fashioned a cape for Buddy out of some old t-shirts.  His legs go in the sleeves.  I cut the front to his belly-button and sewed it 6 " narrower.  The back covers his tail and drapes down his sides.   On our morning walk the shirt collected dew as well as tick trefoil seeds.  We haven't yet seen how it works against the stick seed, and his ears still hang out, but I'm calling this invention a win. When the shirt/cape is full of seeds we burn it and start fresh. (NOTE:  spoke too soon.  When the shirt gets wet it stretches so much he just steps out of it, or gets caught in it as it drags. Three shirts of varying designs later and it's no better. FAIL. Maybe a field cut is the answer.)
Gambol and Kilo continue to shake off most of the seeds.
We all went to the dog park  just before dinner.  There were probably 15 dogs there from a large doberman and golden retriever to an American bulldog and corgi.  All 3 of our boys socialized and ran around apparently enjoying themselves.  Gambol usually plants himself in a corner and hopes for squirrels and bunnies.  Buddy usually wanders from aged smell to aged smell ignoring the fresh ones running around.
Kilo caught 3/3 cheese bits in the air.  He's really getting good at his "here" recall, and Paul lets him walk the last 100 yds of each walk off leash to the door.  Soon.  very soon.
