Almost no evidenced of the dense mats of yesterday, except a stain in the snow, probably excrement from the fleas.
In 2003 we bought 58.92 acres on a hillside in Julian, Pa. We call it our Barony and this is its unfolding chronicle. Construction of Phase I (Carriage House) ended in 2004; Phase II (Main House) ended in 2010. Phase III is never ending. Visitors to our tale are invited to leave a comment.

Snow Fleas Eruption
Today was the first time I have seen them so dense that they form a mat, completely covering the snow. They usually appear as if someone had used a pepper mill, the way it looks around the fringes of these dense mats.
They are actually not fleas but springtails and are decomposers. These hexapods have a shrimp-like tail that unfolds to fling the animal great distances. See more.
