Cruisin'

Home again, home again. Dogs retrieved and walked; mostly unpacked, 1.5 loads of laundry done. Clem’s BBQ joint is taking care of dinner tonight as we ease back into the real world. 
Cruise around the San Juan islands was fabulous; 36 guests, 24 staff; buffet breakfast and lunch unless we needed a box because we were trekking; plated 3 course dinner with land, sea, and garden options. We had fish (salmon, cod, sole, halibut, dungeness crab) every night highlighted by oysters at the captain’s raw bar the last night. Bar was included in the cost as were all treks off vessel.
Weather was exactly what we expected with a couple of sunny days, a few misty days, and one really soggy wet day.
Trekking included strolls around a couple of towns, 3-5 mile short hikes with history lessons, and 7+mile calf and knee busters. I put on a wet suit and tried snorkeling in 45 deg water but it was too rough, and I fed the fish instead. We did some kayaking in a double. Brewery tours, a salmon hatchery, and a distillery rounded out our off vessel adventures.
We met some fun people from all over the world including South Africa, Aruba, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Brazil, Great Britain, and Scotland. Texas, Massachusetts, California, Washington, Minnesota, Florida and probably a few more states were represented. There was a Penn State mont alto forester and a former Huntington resident (neither still lives there).
Too early for whales but lots of other critters. Rain forest was beautiful.
